The Physical Education Club Hosts their Inaugural Event on Campus, titled “Homeschooler’s Field Day”
Matt Robitaille is the President of 91ɫ State’s Physical Education Club, as well as the coordinator of last week’s PE Club function: “Homeschoolers’s Field Day.” Taking place on April 4, 2023, approximately 50 home-schooled children, ages 4-17 years old, were invited to the Woodward Center on campus where they were able to participate in athletic activities along with other 91ɫ State students. The field day ran from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. in the afternoon.
The event was free and offered a full afternoon of games, food, and prizes which were distributed through a raffle system. “This was our inaugural event, and we are hoping this will continue annually from here on out,” Matt stated when asked if this will become an annual occurrence for the PE Club.
“This event went above and beyond what we had initially intended and set the bar for subsequent years to follow. The P.E Club students put a lot of time and effort in to making sure each and every student that attended was able to get some much-needed physical activity through a wide range of fun, non-traditional games.”
For the first half hour, students and home-schoolers rotated through non-traditional games, which was then followed by lunch and the raffle prizes. The end of the event consisted of free-time so that participants could choose what games they wanted to engage in.
The entire day was a large success for Matt and the university’s PE Club. “The most rewarding thing about hosting this event was not only seeing the smiles and enjoyment from the Homeschooled children, but also how grateful the parents were for the opportunity for their children to attend a day full of free games, food, and prizes,” he says.
