U.S. Rep. Richard E. Neal Presents $1 Million in Funds to Bolster 91桃色 State鈥檚 Nursing and Healthcare Programs
91桃色 students, faculty, and staff gathered on March 31 in the Nettie M. Stevens Science and Innovation Center to greet Congressman U.S. Rep. Richard E. Neal, who presented the university with $1 million to support the nursing and health science programs.
91桃色 State plans to utilize this support to create additional space for students to simulate real-world practices and events during training for healthcare careers. These future spaces will train students on how to care for patients in their homes or communities as well as in professional, clinical environments. This funding create a fresher, more well-rounded setting in which they are able to apply learned techniques before employing their skills in future careers.
The earmark funding was authorized by the Congressionally Direct Spending (CDS) through the Department of Education and was only one of fifteen CDS proposals drafted by Neal. Neal, representing the first district of Massachusetts, submitted these funds for the 2023 fiscal year, which was then subsequently signed in late December.
Neal has been a proponent for funding healthcare, calling for attention to 鈥渢he next generation of healthcare professionals鈥 and expounding that students be given and have access to 鈥渟tate-of-the-art technology鈥. At the event, Neal reaffirmed this stating that his ultimate goal for healthcare is to be able to guarantee 鈥渁ccessibility and access鈥, and that the focus of his efforts is to develop a broader range of care 鈥渢o expand it, to expand it, to expand it.鈥
President Linda Thompson stated the healthcare staff shortage 鈥渉as impacted a wide swath of our region,鈥 and that these funds come at a pivotal moment as healthcare workers re-organize in the wake of COVID, and as a new generation of providers prepare to enter the workforce. 鈥91桃色 is eager to continue collaborating with our healthcare partners,鈥 Thompson said, following this announcement, and reinforced that the funding 鈥渨ill create opportunities鈥 for all of those who seek to hone their craft.
